Toilet Problems

If your toilet is overflowing, first shut off the water. The water shut-off valve is located behind the toilet near the floor. Turn the valve counter clockwise until the valve can not turn any more and you should hear the water stop running completely. See the movie on the right for a demonstration.

Next, insert the plunger in the toilet and begin plunging by moving the plunger up and down. You will know that the blockage is clear when the water in the toilet drains down.

Turn the water back on slowly by turning the water shutoff valve clockwise. Let water in the tank fill up and then flush. If the problem persists, repeat the instructions above. Sometimes it is necessary to repeat a few times to clear the blockage. If that doesn't work, please submit a maintenance request.
