CHAMPAIGN COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

The 2010 East Central Illinois Business Expo, presented by the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, is Wednesday, March 31 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Assembly Hall in Champaign. Businesses from throughout East Central Illinois will be displaying their products and services to consumers from around the area, giving community members the opportunity to learn more about the benefits of doing business locally. The event will also feature the Benefit Planning Consultants, Inc. Ultimate Power lunch, in which for $5, attendees can enjoy taste-sized portions from local restaurants and caterers. At 5 p.m. the complimentary BankChampaign Wine Tasting After Hours will be open to the public. Many exhibitors will offer door prizes and free giveaways throughout the day. FARNSWORTH GROUP

Farnsworth Group, Inc. recently won the National Ultron DOC Award for its Interior Design services on the Citizenship and Immigration Service's (CIS) building located in Denver, Colorado. The DOC Competition was established in 1988 as a means to recognize outstanding achievement in contract design. Farnsworth Group provided interior design, architecture, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, plumbing engineering, landscape architecture, energy modeling, commissioning, and LEED consulting for the CIS Denver building. The project achieved a LEED Gold rating and was also a Green Building of America Award Winner by Real Estate and Construction Review, which will be featured in their 2010 Southwest Green Success Stories Edition. Farnsworth and the City of Bloomington's Kickapoo Creek Stream Restoration project has earned the prestigious distinction of National Finalist in the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) 2010 National Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) competition. The firm and project will be recognized during the EEA Gala dinner to be held April 27, 2010, in Washington, D.C. Also for the Kickapoo project, Farnsworth recently received an Honor Award, the top award, in the ACEC of Illinois Engineering Excellence Awards Competition. The Grove on Kickapoo Creek Stream Restoration also recently won a Best of 2009 award by Midwest Construction in the environmental category and was selected as a Green Building of America Award winning project, which will be featured in the upcoming Real Estate & Construction Review-Midwest Green Success Stories edition. www.f-w.com

CARLI - Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois

The Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) serves as a repository of digital image, text, and audio collections from member institutions throughout Illinois available through CARLI Digital Collections. CARLI is also a member and host for Digital Illinois, a consortium of libraries in Illinois featuring collections from libraries, historical societies, museums, and other cultural institutions in Illinois. With over 52,000 images in 72 collections, these collections are of significant interest to those outside the library community. Among the collections is the American Civil War Collection from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The digital collection is an assemblage of handwritten letters, songsheets, and military orders. Spanning the entire period of the American Civil War (1861-1865), these items gathered together provide a unique and insightful glimpse into the era. CARLI has also partnered with the Open Content Alliance to support the digitization of print materials from Illinois academic and research libraries.
