Ramshaw Real Estate

The new ramshaw.com was launched May 1. The site reflects Ramshaw's new company colors and logo, and in many ways is a celebration of the company's accomplishments over its first 20 years in business. The homepage provides visitors with three portals, one for each of Ramshaw's three major offerings: commercial real estate buying/leasing, apartment leasing, and home sales. Intuitive new search functions allow users easy access to each of these areas, and each property page provides detailed descriptions, interior and exterior photos, and in many cases virtual property tours. The community involvement section provides a quick look at many of Ramshaw's activities outside of its core business. And the About Ramshaw section provides a glimpse at the people behind the company's success. Please visit ramshaw.com for any real estate need, or just to see what's new.

Ramshaw has adopted the MAP Management System™ in an aggressive effort to elevate the company's performance to new levels across all divisions. The system consists of developing solid, executable management action programs and strategies, what they call Vital Factors. MAP has accelerated sustained growth and success for more than 13,000 companies and 160,000 executives nationwide. Ramshaw's top-level executives have attended multi-day training workshops at MAP's California-based headquarters and are passing the training down through the organization. www.ramshaw.com

Farnsworth Group

Farnsworth Group was hired to design a new three-story assisted living on 2.7 acres in Collinsville, Illinois. With 68 units in this 52,000 square foot complex, the Cedarhurst project will feature a 2-story entry and living room, along with the following amenities: large dining room, covered porch, full-service kitchen and laundry facilities, spa, wellness center, and beauty/barber shop. This project is currently under construction and is anticipated to be complete by early 2009.

The new assisted living facility is designed to be linked with the existing Piatt County Nursing Home in Monticello. From the exterior, this double-horseshoe shaped building displays an old fashioned front entrance with a porch and sitting area. Lush exterior courtyards located at each side of the building provide semiprivate spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy. The interior will incorporate a residential style of living, including amenities such as resident kitchenettes, dining room, library, beauty shop, gift shop, and laundry facilities. Apartment-style resident rooms will include private bathrooms and electronic connections for computer, television, and small counter-top appliances. Each of the design elements of the building were created with the resident in mind. This project is currently under construction and is expected to open early fall 2008.

The community of Downs was finding its present fire station facility to be very undersized and out of date to meet the fire response needs of this rapidly growing community. A decision was made to build a new 7-bay fire station. In light of the anticipated growth, plans are also in the works for an additional 2-bay substation on the east side of the village in the near future. The new station will be a pre-engineered metal building comprising approximately 17,100 square feet and will house 7 apparatus bays. Adjacent to the bays will be a two-story office/staff area. The first floor will include a dayroom, conference room, 4 offices, radio/computer room, training/multi-purpose room, kitchen and dining facilities, and toilet facilities. The second floor above this area will include a dormitory, physical fitness area, future kitchen, and toilet/shower facilities. This project is currently under construction, and is anticipated to be completed by early fall of 2008. www.f-w.com

CARLI

In June, Trade Centre will gain a new tenant: the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI). The CARLI offices, currently located at 616 E. Green Street and 501 E. Daniel Street, will be moving to the newly renovated space on the third floor of Trade Centre South. The new office space includes 2 meeting/computer training rooms for staff and member library training events and meetings.

CARLI serves over 93% of Illinois higher education students, faculty, and staff at 140 member institutions. Among the many benefits to CARLI members are the I-Share integrated library system that serves 71 institutions (expanding to 76 in July 2008) providing interlibrary loan and resource-sharing throughout the state; E-resources brokering, with over 1,000 discounted subscriptions to electronic journals and other resources in fiscal year 2008; and the new Illinois Library Delivery Service (ILDS), offering 24-hour delivery among 131 CARLI libraries and all of the state's regional library systems. www.carli.illinois.edu

Applied Research Associates

Applied Research Associates has provided Champaign County with a management system for highways. Recently, ARA completed and installed for Champaign County a pavement management system, which allows the county to better understand its highway funding needs and provide an objective tool for determining which roads to fix, and when. Further, this system helps the county engineer prepare budget requests and provides information to the county board on the ramifications of funding decisions.

Champaign County's current annual road maintenance and construction budget is approximately $3 million. Of these total road funds, $2 million is dedicated to improving and maintaining the county's highway network. The other $1 million is allocated to improving roads that are not owned or maintained by Champaign County. These funds are dedicated to funding "fringe road" projects that are generally owned or operated by the City of Champaign, City of Urbana, or other local agency.

The issue of funding highway improvements on non-county roads is a significant issue between the county and local government agencies. It is generally recognized that transportation improvements lead to economic development and growth, therefore the county has a vested interest in improving area transportation facilities, even if they are not specifically within county jurisdiction. This creates a need for an analytical means to determine the required funding for the county-owned roads while still providing funds to the local agencies to improve the overall transportation network and foster economic development.

Jeff Blue, the county engineer, established a simple goal for this project: "The overall goal is to provide an objective tool for the inventory, assessment, and management of Champaign County's road network." ARA helped the county accomplish this goal. www.ara.com
