Ramshaw Real Estate
Ramshaw Real Estate hit several major milestones and records in the third quarter. In late August, the Ramshaw-managed Presby Hall opened to students at the University of Illinois. After being only 7% leased when Ramshaw took over management in May, Presby Hall was 96% leased when it opened its doors for the fall semester. On October 1, Ramshaw experienced its busiest leasing day ever, as students lined up outside the lobby door overnight in advance of the first day of 2009-10 on-campus apartment leasing. The business flowed throughout the month, resulting in on-campus leasing jumping well ahead of schedule for next school year. And October was cause for further celebration as well, with Ramshaw marking its 20th anniversary on October 1. www.ramshaw.com
Wolfram Research
For some highly interesting reading particularly if you're into mathematics check out the Wolfram Blog. Recently, Theodore Gray, Wolfram's co-founder and director of user interfaces, posted an article titled Stock Market Returns by Presidential Party. It begins, "The New York Times recently published an 'Op-Chart' by Tommy McCall on its Opinion page showing what your returns would have been had you started with $10,000 in 1929 and invested it in the stock market, but only during the administrations of either Democratic or Republican presidents. His calculations showed that if you had invested only during Republican administrations you would now have $11,733 while if you had invested only during Democratic administrations you would now have $300,671. Twenty-five times as much!" Gray goes on to explore whether or not these findings are either plausible or meaningful, utilizing Wolfram's Mathematica software for numerous calculations. www.wolfram.com
