Wolfram Research releases new version
of Mathematica

Trade Centre South's largest tenant, Wolfram Research, reached a major milestone in early May. The well-known scientific and technical computing firm released Mathematica 6, the latest version of the company's banner product.

"We thought about renaming Mathematica altogether," said Stephen Wolfram. "It's that new. But we decided instead to highlight the ongoing importance of its original symbolic architecture by just calling it Mathematica 6."

The first version of Mathematica came out in 1988. Wolfram technologists have been working on this newest release off and on for a decade. A couple million people now use the immensely flexible software worldwide, ranging from top-level scientists and engineers to tech-savvy high schoolers.

New parking lot at Trade Centre South

The Stadium View Center building was taken down to make room for a new 67-space parking lot just northwest of Trade Centre South. Finished in early May, the curb appeal of the Trade Centre building is greatly improved.

ARA in place at Trade Centre South

Trade Centre South welcomed a major new tenant this spring when a rapidly growing engineering firm took residence on the second floor. Applied Research Associates moved from 505 West University Avenue, expanding their square footage to meet the demands of their impressive growth. The firm immediately became the second-largest tenant at the south Champaign property.

"We're up to 19,000 square feet in the new space," said Bill Vavrik, Principal Engineer and Division Manager of ARA's Midwest Division. "We had 16,500 in the old space, so this is a nice expansion for us."

"The Champaign office is our largest transportation office and it serves as a training ground for us. We can bring in the highest-quality engineers, many of them U of I grads, then train them and place them into leadership positions in our other locations throughout the country. Or, keep them right here."
